Types of Child Maltreatment

• 
Physical Abuse
Includes beating, harmful restraint, use of a weapon or instrument or actions that result in or could result in physical injury.  Types of inures may include bruises, cuts, burns, fractures and head trauma.

Sexual Abuse
Any sexual behavior imposed on a child and includes a wide range of sexual conduct.
 
 
• 
Emotional Abuse
Expressing attitudes or behaviors toward a child that create serious emotional or psychological damage.
 
 
• 
Child Neglect
A serious disregard for a child's supervision, care or discipline.  Examples of neglect include malnourishment, poor hygiene, lack of necessary medical care and insufficient supervision.
 
Concerns of child abuse or neglect should be reported to the North Carolina Department of Social Services in the county where the child resides
