Who We Are

TEDI BEAR Children's Advocacy Center serves children ages birth to eighteen years old, who are alleged victims of abuse and/or neglect and their non-offending caregivers.  The center provides a child-friendly environment to reduce the trauma that occurs with abuse or neglect.  Alleged offenders are not permitted on the premises as all services are provided with the child remaining the focus during the visit.

TEDI BEAR began providing services in 1992.  The Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University and Pitt County Memorial Hospital support the center, along with major funding by the Duke Endowment, the North Carolina Governor's Crime Commission, North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, Children's Miracle Network, Pitt County Memorial Hospital Foundation and National Children's Alliance.  Significant donations from civic organizations and individual donors provide critical support to maintain the center.

TEDI BEAR staff consists of pediatricians, physician extenders, social workers, child life specialists, therapists, community educators and office support staff.  Over 5,000 children in more than twenty-nine counties of eastern North Carolina have been provided direct services.  Our goal is to provide child-centered and comprehensive services by specially trained experts in the field of child abuse to ensure child safety.  We are one of sixteen Children's Advocacy Centers in North Carolina that meet the high standards for accreditation by National Children's Alliance to provide a full scope of assessment, treatment, education and prevention services.
