Hello Mommy

undefined

In 2001, the Telemedicine Center designed and deployed a system that allows mothers that are confined to their rooms for medical reasons (in the Family Birth Center or on 1 West) to virtually visit their babies in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU).

The system was constructed from existing Center equipment, including telephone-based videoconferencing technology, and allows the mothers to see their newborn children and speak with a NICU nurse about their baby's condition. Tele-visitation has proven successful in relieving the anxiety levels of unstable moms while promoting mother and family bonding with their baby(s) and continues to be used regularly.
