The first Coach Rock Roggeman Cancer Research Golf Classic will benefit the Leo Jenkins Coach Rock Roggeman Cancer Research Fund. The fund will be used to develop and support innovative new cancer treatment clinical trials at ECU’s Department of Oncology and the Leo Jenkins Cancer Center.
The four-person superball tournament will feature a shotgun start. Breakfast and registration begins at 7:30 a.m. with tee off at 8:15 a.m. Lunch and registration begins at noon with a 1:15 p.m. tee off. Entry fees are $500 per team, or $125 per person. A tribute to Roggeman will be held at 12:30 p.m. Special guests will include former ECU football coach Skip Holtz and his wife, Jennifer, and former ECU defensive end and Green Bay Packer C.J. Wilson, a Belhaven native.
Registration must be received by May 16. Prizes include three cars, two vacations and $10,000. Sponsors are Dr. Paul and Kathy Walker, Greenville Nissan, Mike Steele, InTandem, Buffalo Wild Wings, and Drs. Adam Asch and Maria Ruiz-Echevarria
The tournament is held in memory of Thomas “Rock” Roggeman, former assistant ECU football coach, who died of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma June 14, 2010. He was in his fifth overall season before stepping down in September 2009.
