| Summary: | The Southern Circuit Tour of Independent Filmmakers will screen "Free China: The Courage to Believe,” follows the story of Jennifer Zeng, a mother and former Communist Party member, and Dr. Charles Lee, a Chinese-American businessman, who were imprisoned and tortured for their practice of Falun Gong, a type of Taoist and Buddhist mediation. Filmmaker Michael Perlman will attend the free screening. |

The film explores allegations of live organ harvesting of prisoners, U.S. corporate complicity in building and maintaining an elaborate surveillance and censorship system that allows the government to arrest citizens whose thoughts differ from party doctrine, delves into the Chinese prison re-education program, highlights how Internet technologies are aiding human rights activists by allowing online collaboration and uncensored information sharing in closed societies, and highlights Zeng and Lee’s efforts to maintain their sanity during captivity.
Sponsored by S. Rudolph Alexander Performing Arts Series, the events bring independent filmmakers to Greenville to answer questions about their creations after screenings.
