National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE)

The College of Education at East Carolina University is accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE), 2010 Massachusetts Ave., NW, Suite 500, Washington, DC 20036; (202) 466-7496. This accreditation covers initial teacher preparation programs and advanced educator preparation programs. NCATE is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation to accredit programs for the preparation of teachers and other professional school personnel.

North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NC DPI)

The NC DPI administers the NC State Board of Education's process for approval of teacher education programs leading to initial teaching licensure, advanced teaching licensure, and licensure in other school professional areas. ECU offers numerous programs and pathways through which graduates may earn licensure as classroom teachers, administrators, school counselors, library media specialists, instructional technology facilitators, school psychologists, school social workers, and speech-language pathologists.

Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS)

East Carolina University is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. The College of Education is working diligently with other groups on campus to prepare for re-affirmation of accreditation in 2013.
