Praxis is the name given to a series of exams taken by some individuals seeking to be licensed as teachers.  Refer to Praxis Series scores for more information.

Because the Praxis tests serve several purposes, there are two levels of the test: Praxis I and Praxis II The Praxis I tests measure basic academic skills in reading, writing, and mathematics and the Praxis II tests measure general and subject-specific knowledge and teaching skills.

This site will help you to better understand The Praxis Series and will provide you with tips, hints, study guides and practice tests.

WHAT IS PRAXIS I?

Praxis I: Is an assessment of basic proficiency in reading, writing, and mathematics and is used by some institutions as a teacher education entrance requirement. The Praxis I has three parts (reading, writing, and math skills) and two formats (
the Pre-Professional Skills Test or PPST and the Computer-Based Academic Skills Assessments or CBT).

WHAT IS PRAXIS II?

Praxis II: Is an assessment of professional knowledge of teaching and of subject matter content in the areas in which teaching certificates and licenses are granted. The Praxis II measures knowledge of specific subject that K-12 educators will teach, as well as general and subject-specific teaching skills and knowledge.  There are Subject Assessments, Principles of Learning and Teaching (PLT) Tests and Teaching Foundations Tests.

Individuals entering into the teaching profession must successfully pass Praxis II as a part of the teacher licensing and certification process required by many states. Check your state for specific requirments.
