Dr. Patricia Anderson's primary research is related to action research for teachers. Before serving as Chair for the Department of Curriculum and Instruction, she worked as Graduate Director for the Department. She served as a faculty member within the elementary education masters program and has observed first hand the importance of teachers being engaged in asking themselves questions about their own teaching, their own students, and their own classrooms. Her work in this area has been conducted with several colleagues in the department and has resulted in publications and presentations for state and national organizations. She has extensive experience in elementary education in general and has special expertise in the area of classroom management. She has served as consultant to several local school systems and has served on the Board of Directors for several volunteer organizations. Within the university at large, Dr. Anderson served most recently as Parliamentarian for the university campus for ten years, a position appointed by the Chair of ECU’s Faculty. Further, she has served for two years as Chair of the Faculty for the university. She has been a strong advocate for the concept of shared faculty governance and has spent much of her time and energy involved in this critical process of helping faculty and administrators across the campus become engaged in joint decision-making about issues affecting faculty and students at ECU.
