Reading Module Registration

How much work is involved in each module?

As in typical face-to-face workshops, approximately 10 hours of work is expected within each module. This work earns you one (1) Continuing Education Credit (CEU).

How will I know that I am registered?

After registering online (on this website), you will receive an immediate "pop-up message" indicating that your registration was completed. You can expect to receive an email message from the Division of Continuing Studies on the 6th day of the month for which you registered (or the first business day thereafter if this falls on a weekend) with complete instructions for accessing Blackboard and contacting your instructor.

How and when will I receive documentation of CEU completion?

This documentation is handled through the Division of Continuing Studies. You should receive your documentation within 2-3 weeks after completing your module. Rather than a letter, the documentation looks much like a grade report with tear off tabs. If you do not receive it, contact Jeffery Alejandro in the Division of Continuing Studies (alejandroj@ecu.edu or (252) 328-9198) to ensure that your mailing address was entered correctly. If you are unable to contact Jeffery Alejandro, contact Dr. Terry Atkinson (atkinsont@ecu.edu or (252) 328-2889).

What if I experience problems with Blackboard?
(for instance: can't access Blackboard, can't open files, etc.)
  • For technology assistance (such as attaching files, using Microsoft Word, etc) contact the COE Help Desk at (252) 328-1125.
  • For technical assistance with Blackboard (such as logging into Blackboard) contact Jeffery Alejandro at (252) 328-9198 or email alejandroj@ecu.edu.
What if I don't know how to contact my Instructor for the module?

-After you access Blackboard, click on the Staff Information button. All information is posted for you. BE SURE AND CONTACT YOUR INSTRUCTOR ASAP. OTHERWISE HE/SHE WILL NOT KNOW THAT YOU ARE ON BOARD.

What if I am unsure about how to submit work or am unclear about any of the module expectations or deadlines?

-Contact your module instructor via email. If you receive no response within 48 hours, contact Dr. Terry Atkinson (atkinsont@ecu.edu or (252)328-2889.

When can I expect to receive information about gaining module access and beginning to complete module tasks?

- Participant will receive an email message from the Division of Continuing Studies on the 6th day of the month for which he/she has registered (or the first business day following, if this is on the weekend). It will include your username and password to access Blackboard, where you will find contact information for you Instructor under Staff Information. Contact him or her immediately to indicate that you are on board and "ready to roll".

What if I have registered for a module and do not receive an email message from the Division of Continuing Studies on the 6th day of the month for which I have registered (or the first business day following)?

-Contact Jeffery Alejandro in the Division of Continuing Studies (alejandroj@ecu.edu or (252) 328-9198. If you are unable to contact Jeffery Alejandro, contact Dr. Terry Atkinson (atkinsont@ecu.edu or (252) 328-2889. If your email address is incorrect or payment has not cleared, this must be resolved to that you can proceed.

What if I need to change my email address during the month that I am participating in a module?

-When your Blackboard address is set up with your email address as part of your user name, it cannot be changed during the month. You must use the information sent to you in the initial email (from the Division of Continuing Studies) for your user name and password for the duration of the module. If you wish for your module instructor to contact you via a different email address, understand that making such changes can slow down your receipt of pertinent information during this short time period. If it is absolutely necessary, contact your Instructor via email and copy the message to Dr. Terry Atkinson (atkinsont@ecu.edu).

Can I have module information sent to me in hard copy?

-Since these modules were designed for on-line delivery, the information is not available in hard copy. Feel free to print out a hard copy of all module components after you have accessed Blackboard.

What if I am not confident with sending or receiving email messages or completing work online?

-If this is the case, you will need to get some support to feel more comfortable with these tasks before you register. If you are not able to do this, you will  probably be better suited to enroll in face-to-face workshops to earn your CEU credits. These modules were designed to rely heavily upon email communication and online completion of tasks. If you are not comfortable working within these areas, you may find the modules difficult or impossible to complete.

What if I find that I am too busy to complete a module by the end of the month?

-Ensure that you do not register for an online module during a month when you have many commitments. The time commitment for earning one CEU is 10 hours. Since our instructors will be working with a new group of students each month, time extensions are not granted. If you cannot complete a module by the end of the month, you are welcome to reregister as a new student.

What if my Internet/email provider is unreliable?

-If this is the case, resolve problems or switch to a reliable provider BEFORE you register. If you have an emergency, contact your Instructor via email and copy it to Dr. Terry Atkinson (atkinsont@ecu.edu).

What if I email my instructor and receive no response?

-Send a follow up message to ensure that it was sent. If you receive no response within 48 hours, contact Dr. Terry Atkinson (atkinsont@ecu.edu or (252)328-2889).
