READ PROGRAM GOALS – UNDERGRADUATE LEVEL The teacher education program in reading will develop students’:
- understanding of the various components of the reading process
- understanding of reading curriculum
- understanding of developmental reading, including various instructional methods associated with reading instruction
- understanding the components of a balanced reading program that integrates all communication skills
- ability to use a variety of assessment measures including appropriate diagnostic and remedial procedures in a clinical or field-based setting
- understanding of patterns of organizing and supervising reading programs
- abilities to teach with multiple approaches to reading instruction including integration of the reading-writing processes
- skills in using recent research data in assessment and planning for reading instruction
- understanding of issues, trends, and research in reading
