The Revevolving Education Around Partnerships(REAP) Program was started in 1969 by Malene Irons and the Develpmental Evaluation Clinic. In 1974, the REAP Program was taken over by the College of Education's Department of Curriculum and Instruction's Special Education program. What first started as a program only for children with disabilities has now grown into an inclusive program for children with and without disabilities. The program serves preschool children with special needs ranging from three through five years of age.
Purpose of REAP
The purpose of REAP is twofold. First, the program provides direct educational and related services to preschool children with specific needs. Second, the REAP staff provides supervision for students completing course requirements for observation, practicum, student teaching, internship, and certification. It serves as a model inclusive preschool program serving young children with and without disabilities and as a site for research projects in this most critical area of special education.
Educational Program
The program provided to the children at REAP addresses all areas of a child's development. These include cognitive, language, social/emotional, gross, and fine motor skills, and self help skills such as toileting and eating independently. Activities are planned and adapted to meet the individual needs of each child. The schedule is structured to accommodate large and small group activities. Field trip experiences outside of the center that also stimulate the child's growth and development occur frequently.
Families
Families are an integral part of our total program of working with our REAP students. Families participate in a variety of activities such as classroom assistance, volunteering, educational program planning conferences, observations, Parent Partners Group (PPG), home visits, and other special events.
