Student Council for Exceptional Children

The Student Council for Exceptional Children (SCEC) is a chapter of the Council for Exceptional Children, a national organization that is dedicated to improving the educational experience for children with exceptionalities.

Our Goal

SCEC’s goal is to enhance the lives of persons with exceptionalities in Pitt County.  The SCEC achieves this goal by:  volunteering at Special Olympics, REAP, ARISE, Special Populations events, as well as additional events within the community.

Not only do we serve our community, but we are also an organization that connects students at East Carolina University who are interested in working with persons with exceptionalities.   Through socials and monthly meetings, the SCEC is a great way to connect yourself with other students on campus who are also interesting in serving their community and persons with exceptionalities.
Why join SCEC?

By joining the SCEC, not only do members surround themselves with others who have a passion for serving their community and individuals with exceptionalities, but there are also opportunities available for professional and personal growth.  As a member of the SCEC, an individual opens the door to state and national conferences with the Council for Exceptional Children.  The SCEC also provides an opportunity for professional and personal development by gaining experience through working with individuals with exceptionalities through community events.
