Dr. Tara Jeffs's primary research areas include implementing assistive and emerging technologies in general and special education classrooms, introducing technology into teacher preparation, and universal design for learning. She is particularly interested in exploring, learning, and integrating both common and cutting edge assistive technologies in the home, school, community and classroom.
As a result, new opportunities open up for individuals with disabilities to help them achieve their lifetime goals and ambitions. Her articles have appeared in The Journal of Special Education Technology, Assistive Technology Outcomes and Benefits and Computers in the Schools.
An exciting aspect of her career is the collaboration with others to incorporate universal design for learning in classes. Dr Jeff's recently finished a project with faculty in the department of Curriculum and Instruction to make their materials more accessible. Others include technology integration in early Childhood Education and using technology to build literacy skills.
Dr Jeffs is involved in the Council for exceptional Children Organization at both the state and national levels. She is currently the web coordinator for the North Carolina Council for Exceptional Children.
