Mission

The Assistive Technology Center's mission is to create opportunities for individuals with disabilities, parents, advocates, special and general educators, school administrators, occupational therapists, school psychologists, speech therapists, recreational therapists, rehabilitation counselors and others interested in learning how technology can be used to assist individuals to reach their potential .

These opportunities involve exploring, learning, and integrating both common and cutting edge assistive technologies in the home, school, community and workplace. As a result, new opportunities will open up for individuals with disabilities to enable them to achieve their lifetime goals and ambitions.

To achieve this mission, great efforts and energies are being exerted beyond general assistive technology awareness. East Carolina University is gaining national recognition in the area of assistive technology through exceptional teacher preparation courses, an online Assistive Technology Certificate Program, informational and hands-on workshops, community and school partnerships and research initiates.
