Dr. Sue Steinweg's primary research is related to the use of online instruction in preparing pre-service special education teachers and Master’s level special education teachers. This includes comparisons of the effectiveness of traditional and online instruction, evaluating new technologies for use in online instruction, developing supports for students in the online environment, and determining faculty responses to online teaching. This work has resulted in the publication with colleagues of a comparison of the online and face-to-face presentation of an introductory special education course in Teacher Education and Special Education which won the outstanding article award for Volume 28 of the journal. She received the Max Ray Joyner Award for her instruction through distance education. Dr. Steinweg is one of the co-editors of the new electronic, peer reviewed Journal of Curriculum and Instruction (JoCI).
