The mission of the adult education program is to develop professional adult educators who are reflective practitioners. The program provides students with the theoretical, philosophical, historical, and research foundations of good practice in the education of adults. Core courses address program development, instructional processes or strategies, the nature of adult learning and development, the organization and administration of adult education programs, and an introduction to the field of adult education. ADED 6491-Research Problems in Education provides students with foundational knowledge of research. Elective courses in adult education address the diverse areas of practice as well as the diversity of adult learners.
The adult education program is a part of the Department of Counselor and Adult Education (COAD). The COAD office is located in Ragsdale 213. If you are unable to contact a faculty member in the adult education program, you can leave a message with the departmental secretary at (252) 328-6856.
