The Educational Specialist Degree (Ed.S.)
The Educational Specialist Degree (Ed.S.) is a 30 semester hour program for candidates who have a master's degree in counselor education or closely related field (e.g., rehabilitation counseling; counseling psychology). Fifteen hours in advanced counseling courses(7000 Level) must include:
COAD 7480 Research Methods and Design in Counseling
COAD 7482 Counseling Supervision
AND three courses from the following:
COAD 7402 Seminar-Career Development (Theory and Program)
COAD 7404 Advanced Counseling and Consulting Strategies
COAD 7405 Practicum in Group Counseling
COAD 7408 Professional, Legal, and Ethical Issues in Counseling
Elective Courses
Ed.S. students are required to select 15 hours of electives in their program of study. They are encouraged to confer with an advisor about elective courses to create an area of study appropriate for their interests, needs, and work settings. Examples of elective areas of study include: educational leadership and supervision, family therapy, child development and family relations, substance abuse counseling, adult education, psychology, and health issues.
