Counselor Education Program Requirements

The Master of Science degree (M.S.)
in counselor education requires a minimum of 48 semester hours, including 33 hours of core course work and 15 hours of electives. A thesis is optional. Students must pass a Counselor Education Comprehensive Examination to complete degree requirements.

Required Core Courses in Counselor Education (33 semester hours)

COAD 7480 Research Methods and Design in Counseling * or *

COAD 5370 Introduction to Counseling & Human Services

COAD 6401 Analysis of the Individual

COAD 6402 Career Counseling and Development

COAD 6404 Counseling Theory and Techniques

COAD 6405 Group Procedures

COAD 6407 Social and Cultural Issues in Counseling

COAD 6409 The Helping Relationship

COAD 6482 Supervised Practice Counseling

COAD 6991 Internship (all interns)

COAD 6992 Internship (extended intern)**

COAD 6411 Student Development and Counseling in Higher Education

COAD 6415 Agency and Community Counseling
