College of Education
Fifty-two East Carolina University freshmen and full-time transfer students with an intended teacher education major were honored during the College of Education ECU EXCELS event on February 7, 2014. The annual ECU EXCELS program recognizes first-time, full-time freshman or on-campus transfer students who earned a 3.0 GPA or higher during the fall semester.
The College of Education’s newly renovated, 2700 square foot Academic Success Center (ASC) opened in May 2014 in Rivers Building. The ASC houses Academic Advising, the Office of Professional Development and Teaching Fellows/Maynard/Abernathy Scholars and the Education Housing Community.
The East Carolina Alumni Association awards scholarships each year to undergraduate, full-time students who demonstrate leadership and service to the community. This year, three education majors have received scholarships.

The ASCD Emerging Leaders program is designed to prepare a young, diverse group of educators for potential influence and ASCD leadership. McKee recently received his master’s degree in Reading Education from ECU.
