The faculty and staff in the College of Education are dedicated to the preparation of culturally aware and proficient professional educators and allied practitioners in varied educational settings. The six academic departments in the College of Education offer graduate degree programs, advanced certificates, and EdD and EdS programs in educational leadership.

To qualify for admissions to a graduate degree program, an applicant must hold a baccalaureate degree from an institution accredited by a regional accrediting body and show evidence of being able to succeed in graduate studies based on an evaluation of undergraduate grades and admission test scores. Admission criteria and required supplementary application materials vary by individual programs.
Applicants should allow about 30 minutes to complete the online application, located on the Graduate School website. In order to submit an application to the Graduate School, applicants must first create an account using a personalized login and password. This account will allow applicants to save applications and continue it at a later date, as well as work on multiple applications at the same time. Keep in mind - Online applications not submitted within four weeks of creation are deleted. It will be necessary to begin a new application.
The completed application packet must be received by the Graduate School by program-defined deadlines to insure that the application is given full consideration. Be sure to check program requirements closely as some programs only admit students once per year and not all programs have the same deadline for applications. Applications will be processed until such time the individual programs notify the Graduate School that they have reached their enrollment capacity for a given term. The Cut-Off Deadline is the last day an application and fee can be submitted for that term, please check for specific program deadlines
A nonrefundable application fee of $70 is required for each application submitted. The online application accepts Visa or Master Card and is the most efficient and effective means of payment. If applicants select the "Pay Later" during the application, they can pay by check, or go to ECU's online payment site to pay by credit card. The Graduate School will not review applications until the application fee is received.

East Carolina University opened its doors as East Carolina Teachers' Training School in 1909 and continues to graduate more licensed teachers than any teacher education institution in the state of North Carolina. Receiving a Master's degree in Education from ECU enables teachers or recent graduates to increase their professional expertise and add additional licensure/certificate areas to their initial teaching licenses. Distance Education (DE) allows an individual to earn college credits, even entire degrees, from conveniently located off-campus sites, or through a variety of virtual delivery platforms. A variety of graduate certificate programs are also available. Courses offered online use Course Management Systems (CMS) to provide content and for communicating with students. Blackboard is a type of CMS that provides online discussion forums, links to outside websites, videos, podcasts, online testing, and a variety of multimedia resources.
The link below is a support tool for the College of Education's DE students. The site provides assessments to help potential students decide if distance education is a good fit. A list of programs offered online, as well as how to apply for a program, is available for potential students. The site also serves as a support site for new and current DE students.
The College of Education graduate certificate programs, ranging from 12 to 18 credit hours, are designed to allow students to take courses in an area of specialization, enhancing their academic experience and expertise.
Students may work toward a graduate certificate in addition to pursuing a master's degree; or students may enroll in stand-alone graduate certificate programs for the purpose of professional and personal development. All certificates require graduate school applications, even if already enrolled in a graduate program.
If students are already enrolled in master's degree programs, they must complete a Request for Approval to Add a Certificate form located on the graduate school webpage. An application fee is not required to add a certificate when enrolled in a degree program.
All certificate students, even those enrolled in master's degree programs, must fill out the Graduate Certificate Graduation Application or the certificate will not be awarded. This form is located on the Office of the Registrar's webpage under the Requested Forms tab.

The Cashier's Office serves as the central collections office for East Carolina University. The office handles billing, receiving, depositing, disbursing, accounting and the financial record keeping of student tuition, fees and related charges.
