Portfolios

The Department of Library Science portfolio serves as a capstone achievement that provides evidence of meeting specific standards and objectives with the posting of selected course artifacts.  The portfolio allows for continuous self-reflection during the program via artifact reflections, an initial impressions essay, a final impressions essay, and a philosophy statement.  At the end of each course, you will post the applicable artifact (determined by the instructor) and a reflection.

All MLS students and students seeking 076 School Library Media Coordinator Licensure are required to create a portfolio.  Portfolios are reviewed both at midpoint and at the end of a student’s program for a final review.  A student must pass the final portfolio review in order to graduate.  Reviews are conducted by the Portfolio Assessment Team (PAT), comprised of MLS faculty members.  Each semester, the PAT contacts those students  who are eligible for either the midpoint or final review.  This email contact will provide you with deadlines and details for the process.

Portfolios are located on an ECU server in a format called SETS (Student Evidence Tracking System).   SETS provides a grid for the input of artifacts, reflections, and the other required elements of the portfolio.   Your SETS account ( http://portfolio.coe.ecu.edu/sets) can be accessed with your ECU user ID and password.

The SETS account will eventually be replaced by a database format called Task Stream, which is being implemented by the College of Education.  The Task Stream account will contain the same data as SETS.  The setup of Task Stream for the department is currently in progress.  You will be informed when it is fully operational and what the procedures will be for the transition.
