Tell us a little bit about your background.

My name is Blaire Kay Watford and I am senior double majoring in mathematics and mathematics education.I was raised in a small town in North Carolina where my dream to be a teacher was discovered.

What honors and awards have you been given?

·Current GPA 3.98

·North Carolina Teachers of Mathematics Eastern Region Student of the Year

·Chancellor's List: Fall 2010, Spring 2011, Spring 2012, Spring 2013, Fall 2013

·Dean's List: Fall 2011, Fall 2012

·"Outclass the Competition" Program College of Education Representative

·Fall/Spring Open House Math Education Representative

What are your personal passions?

I love the outdoors.I would spend all day outside if I could.I love to take my dog for walks on the greenway and taking her to the dog park.I enjoy going to the gym and eating as healthy as I can. I like hanging out with my friends and just having a good time.

When and why did you decide to become a teacher?

I decided that I wanted to be a teacher when I was around 8 years old.We had a playhouse in the back yard where we would spend all day playing school.I am the youngest sibling so I was never allowed to be the teacher.Ever since then, I have always dreamt of becoming an amazing teacher.

What is a memorable experience that you have had in your teacher ed training at ECU?

I believe my most memorable moment I have had in the math education program would have to be the NCCTM conference in Greensboro, NC.I had an amazing time with my fellow classmates at this event.We had the opportunity to learn numerous skills and ideas to take into our future classrooms. This conference was by far the best math education event I have attended while at ECU.

What do you hope to be doing in the next 5 years?

In the next 5 years I plan on having a couple years of teaching under my belt and then head back to get my doctorate in math education.My dream is to become a professor here at ECU.

What advice do you have for other students going into or enrolled in the teacher education program at ECU?

DREAM BIG and keep pushing yourself.
