Business, Career, and Technical Education Faculty

Conduct Sessions at NCDPI Summer Conference

 

 

Greensboro, NC – Faculty from the Department of Business, Career, and Technical Education (BCTE) returned from the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI) Summer Conference held July 25 - July 29, 2005.  Approximately 3500 Career and Technical Educators from across the state attended the convention.  And, more than 900 business teachers attended the week-long conference.  Graduate students completing their MAEd program in Business Education were also in attendance defending their graduate portfolios.  

 

ECU’s College of Education BCTE faculty provided hands-on lab sessions during the conference.  Dr. Ivan Wallace, Dr. Lilla Holsey, Dr. Lon Pierce, Ms. Cindy Miller, Mr. Stephen Kirk, Dr. Steve Mark, Mr. David Parke, and Dr. David Ozag attended the conference and led several sessions.  Their presentations trained teachers about the following classroom technology: Learning to Write on a Tablet-PC, The Power of a Pocket PC, Capturing Students’ Imaginations Using Screen Capture and Moviemaking Software and Hardware, Microsoft PowerPoint/Producer: Whirlygigs and Whizbangs, Old-Fashioned Teaching Techniques Using New-Fangled Technology, Power, Creativity, and Versatility of Cutting Edge Technology, e-Commerce and Dreamwearver MX: Making the Connection for e-Commerce Functionality, and Windows 2003 Speech Recognition. In addition to these presentations, Cindy Miller also exhibited BCTE’s online Distance Education program. 

 

Dr. Wallace, BCTE department chair, received two awards during a luncheon awards ceremony.  One award was for serving as Chair of the Computer Applications I curriculum team, and the other for chairing the Foundations of Information curriculum team.  Both were new courses unveiled at the conference.  Other ECU recognitions at the conference included, two former ECU graduates inducted into the Department of Public Instruction Hall of Fame; Jeff Fuller of Richlands, NC and Dr. Jimmy Smith of Orange County, NC.  Both teachers received their BSE and Master’s degrees from ECU.
