The Council for Exceptional Children – Teacher Education Division published the journal Teacher Education and Special Education (TESE). This very well respected journal selected an article by Steinweg, Davis and Thompson as the award winning article for the year (Volume 28). The article selected for this award is:

The purpose of the award is to recognize the contribution of an individual or group of individuals for the publication of an article in Teacher Education and Special Education which is deemed to have lasting value to the field by virtue of its potential impact on research, policies, or practices in teacher education and special education.

On April 7, 2006 Dr. John B Harer presented a paper on "Defending Gay Positive Literature" to the Southeastern Library Association's bi-ennial conference on Friday, April 7, 2006 in Memphis, TN. Dr. Harer's paper examined the recent censorship of young adult teen novels with a gay theme or character and presented strategies for libraries to defend such titles against censorship.

A book chapter written by James Tarr, Hollylynne Lee, and Robin Rider (Mathematics & Science Education. “When data and chance collide: Drawing inferences from simulation data.” In National Council of Teachers' of Mathematics' 2006 Yearbook: Reasoning with Data and Chance was published in April 2006.
In April 2006 Dr. Robin L. Rider gave a presentation along with co-presenters Suzanne Harper and Shannon Driskell, “Illustrating some Technology Tips from the Mathematics Teacher” at the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics Conference in St. Louis, MO.
Dr. Dan Boudah, Associate Professor

Dr. Boudah, a member of the Department of Curriculum and Instruction Special Education faculty in the College of Education, was elected vice-president of the Council for Learning Disabilities (CLD). He will serve the organization through the presidential succession from Vice-President to President-Elect, and then President to Past-President. The CLD is an international organization concerned about issues related to individuals with learning disabilities. CLD is composed of professionals who represent diverse disciplines and who are committed to enhancing the education and lifespan development of individuals with learning disabilities.
