Dr. Steve Duncan, Assistant Vice Chancellor, Military Programs

Dr. Duncan recently published a commentary in the Performance Improvement Journal. He has been at ECU for about 4 years and spent a number of years working for the federal government and held management positions for 25 years. “During this time I became fascinated with the field of human performance,” said Duncan. At ECU, he has served as the Director of Military Programs and has focused on extending the quality ECU programs to the military and dependents of North Carolina.

 

Dr. William A. Sugar, Associate Professor  in the Department of Library Science and Instructional Technology and Dr. Louis L. Warren, Professor in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction in Elementary Education

Dr. William Sugar and Dr. Louis Warren co-authored the book Introducing the Teacher-Leader/Designer: A Guide for Success.  The book focuses on the conceptual Framework of Teacher-Leader/Designer, Essential Skills of Teacher-Leader/ Designers, Working with Each Other as Teacher-Leader/ Designers, and Professional Development of Teacher-Leader/ Designers. 

 

Dr. Jane Manner, Associate Professor of in the Department of Elementary Education, Curriculum and Instruction

Dr. Manner recently published an article in the Journal on Public Policy from Oxford University Roundtable, Oxford, England, Spring, 2007 edition. This study examines the relationship of public Montessori education expressed as Stanford Achievement Test scores in reading and math in comparison with similar scores for students in traditional programs.

 

Dr. Vivian W. Mott, Chair of the Department of Counselor and Adult Education

Dr. Mott was honored with the Association for Continuing Higher Education’s second highest honor, The 2007 Special Professional Recognition Award, at their annual conference in Roanoke, VA. The award is given to recognize individuals or organizations for professional contributions and actions that demonstrate a critical impact on continuing higher education or the Association. Previous recipients of the award have included Alex Charters, the Kellogg Foundation, and Bill Moyers.

Mrs. Hardee was installed to become President of the Optimist Club of Greenville, NC effective October 1, 2007.  The purpose of the Optimist Club is to develop Optimism as a philosophy of life utilizing the tenets of the Optimist Creed:  to promote an active interest in good government and civic affairs; to inspire respect for the law; to promote patriotism and work for international accord and friendship among all people; to aid and encourage the development of youth, in the belief that the giving of one’s self in service to others will advance the well-being of humankind, community life, and the world.  Below are some of the club activities: 

*The club has had Oratorical Contest winners (scholarships awarded) at the local and District levels for the last few years.

*The club also supports the Boys and Girls Home for many years; have sponsored a Little League Baseball Team for many years; and for the past four years, we have supported the Ronald McDonald House through its “Share A Night Program” and provided breakfast baskets each quarter.

* And a “Respect for Law” night is scheduled each year at which awards are presented to outstanding law officers in the Pitt County Sheriff’s Department, the Greenville Police Department, as well as the NC Highway Patrol.
