College of Education Program/Organizational Fair

Greenville, NC - On Thursday, November 17,  2005 from 9am-2 pm,  The College of Education’s Rural Education Institute will host the 2005 Teacher Cadet Day in Mendenhall Student Center.  Mr. Coleman Bailey, 2005-06 Teacher of the Year for Pitt County Schools and East Carolina University alum will be the featured speaker for this event. This year the Rural Education Institute has Teacher Cadet Partnerships with 10 high schools in the following counties: Beaufort, Craven, Hyde, Johnston, Lenoir, Pitt, Johnston, Wake and Wayne.

The NC Teacher Cadet Program is an innovative yearlong or semester block activity based curriculum for high school seniors. The course is designed to promote a better understanding and create interest in those students who are considering teaching as a profession.  It is an honors-type program that details many components of the education environment and involves students in content, application, observations and teaching.  There are five units of study:  The Learner, The School, The Teacher and Teaching, History and Government, Professional Growth, and Activities/Portfolios.

Please join us as we continue to provide individuals with insight about various facets within the education arena.
