Rider was the speaker at the Seventh International Conference on Teaching Statistics (ICOTS7) in Salvador, Brazil held on July 3, 2006. Rider presented a paper entitled “DIFFERENCES IN STUDENTS’ USE OF COMPUTER SIMULATION TOOLS AND REASONING ABOUT EMPIRICAL DATA AND THEORETICAL DISTRIBUTIONS” co-authored with Dr. Hollylynne S. Lee from NC State University.

On June 26, 2006, Kevin Cherry, a member of the Council of the American Library Association, was recently elected one of two state chapter representatives to serve on that governing body’s Planning and Budget Assembly. ALA is the largest and oldest library association in the world with approximately 66,000 members.

On June 22-23, 2006, in Nashville, Dr. Faulconer presented three workshops to over 240 Tennessee mathematics teachers in a state Summit for Secondary Education. These workshops were on the topics of Defining the Need for Reading/Writing in Mathematics, Techniques to Increase Mathematical Understanding through Reading/Writing, and Assessing Mathematical Understanding through Reading/Writing. She was assisted in these workshops by Dr. Bossé in the Department of Mathematics and Science Education.
