Dr. Rhea Miles – Department of Math & Science Education

Miles was nominated for Woman of the Year by the Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority.  An event was held to celebrate the achievements of local women who make a difference in the community.  Seven women were considered for the honor.  Miles is the founder and director of the East Carolina Reach Up program.  During the academic year and summer, the program focuses on minority middle-school students becoming more excited about science.  Miles is also a chairwoman of the nominations committee for north Carolina Science Teacher Association.  As a member of the Delta Sigma Sorority, she is involved with the local mentoring program, Dr. Betty Shabazz Delta Academy.  The program is run by the sorority’s Greenville alumnae chapter.
