Vivian W. Mott, Interim Chair of Counselor and Adult Education, was recently awarded the Rotarian Leader of the Year Award by Rotary International “in recognition of valuable leadership and Service Above Self during the Centennial Year of Rotary in the World.”  Dr. Mott is past president of the Greenville Noon Rotary club and Assistant Governor of Rotary in District 7720 in eastern North Carolina.
 


Dr. Jack Schmidt, professor of Counselor Education in the College of Education, received a 2005 Distinguish Career Award from the School of Education at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Dr. Schmidt completed his doctorate in counseling at UNC-G in 1979. The award was presented at an alumni reception this May to recognize his years of leadership in the counseling profession and the many books, articles, and other works that Dr. Schmidt has published during his career.


Dr. Jack Schmidt, NCC, LPC, professor of counselor education in the Counselor and Adult Education Department, was elected to the Board of Directors of the National Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC) in June for a three-year term. The NBCC is an independent, not-for-profit credentialing body for professional counselors that began in 1982 to establish and monitor a national certification system. The certification program recognizes counselors who have met predetermined standards in their training, experience, and performance on the National Counselor Examination for Licensure and Certification (NCE). NBCC has over 36,000 certified counselors in the US and over 50 countries. NBCC's flagship credential is the National Certified Counselor (NCC), and the NBCC also offers specialty certifications in several areas including school counseling, clinical mental health counseling, and addictions counseling. 


Professor James McKernan, Department of Curriculum and Instruction, a Founder Member of the Educational Studies Association of Ireland (ESAI) was invited as the Keynote Speaker at the 30th Annual Conference of ESAI in University College Cork, Ireland, March 10-13th 2005 to speak on "Educational Research: 1975-2005" .McKernan also gave a paper on "Critical Realism and Action Research ".    Professor McKernan came to ECU as the King Distinguished Professor of Education from the Deanship at University of Limerick's Faculty of Education.

 

David Ozag,Assistant Professor, Business, Career & Technical Education, was named the 2005 ECU Faculty Advisor of the Year by the Interfraternity Council.
 


Dr. Jane Carol Manner, Associate Professor of Education was awarded the Mary L. Collins Award for Excellence in Teacher Education by The Florida Association of Teacher Educators on October 16, 2004.This award is presented in recognition of Excellence in Teacher Education.

 

 

Dr. Jane Carol Manner, Associate Professor of Education Activity was selected as member of TESC, the Teacher Education Standards Cohort of the Association of Teacher Educators (ATE) on January 20, 2005.  The findings of TESC will inform the work of the National ATE Commission to refine the ATE Teacher Educator Standards. Dr. Manner received this honor for displaying an evidence of a history of commitment to professional development and lifelong learning.
