Dr. Jack Schmidt, professor of Counselor Education in the College of Education, received a 2005 Distinguish Career Award from the School of Education at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Dr. Schmidt completed his doctorate in counseling at UNC-G in 1979. The award was presented at an alumni reception this May to recognize his years of leadership in the counseling profession and the many books, articles, and other works that Dr. Schmidt has published during his career.
Dr. Jack Schmidt, NCC, LPC, professor of counselor education in the Counselor and Adult Education Department, was elected to the Board of Directors of the National Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC) in June for a three-year term. The NBCC is an independent, not-for-profit credentialing body for professional counselors that began in 1982 to establish and monitor a national certification system. The certification program recognizes counselors who have met predetermined standards in their training, experience, and performance on the National Counselor Examination for Licensure and Certification (NCE). NBCC has over 36,000 certified counselors in the US and over 50 countries. NBCC's flagship credential is the National Certified Counselor (NCC), and the NBCC also offers specialty certifications in several areas including school counseling, clinical mental health counseling, and addictions counseling.
