Winning Presenters at the “Think In of Best Practices Conference” held on November 2, 2005. Stapleton, Williams, and Steinweg presented their track, Effective/Efficient use of Technology. Academic Outreach is awarding their group up to $2,000 for their outstanding efforts. This award can be spent on supplies, equipment or travel in support of your online related teaching or research efforts, pending your chair’s approval. 
 

Karen Dawkins, Director of the Center for Science, Mathematics, and Technology Education in the College of Education at East Carolina University, received the Don Bailey College/University Distinguished Service Award from the North Carolina Science Teachers Association at its November meeting. The award, named for a long-time science educator at ECU, recognizes individuals for exceptional service to science education in North Carolina.


Presentations

Debbie H. Grady, Coordinator, Wachovia Partnership East, South Central Consortium
Grady gave a presentation on the Wachovia Partnership East program at the North Carolina Model Teacher Education Consortium state conference for public school paraprofessionals on October 14 and 15 in Raleigh, N. C.


Dr. Larry Nash White, Assistant Professor, Library Science & Instructional Technology

Dr. White was an invited presenter at the Ohio Library Council’s Annual Conference & Exposition in Columbus, Ohio on October 6, 2005. Dr. White presented “Crouching Competition: Hidden Opportunity,” a presentation on the growing competition for information service provision within the library and information service markets to an audience of approximately 100 library administrators, government officials, and community leaders. The presentation featured how libraries and other information service organizations can identify service competitors; successfully and proactively respond to competitive forces in a market; and use the service competition process and their competitors to their service advantage.

Joe Ciechalski, Jim Pinkney, and Florence Weaver; The Department of  Counselor and Adult Education; COAD graduate, Heather Robertson,  doctoral candidate at North Carolina State University. Program was presented at the North Carolina School Counselor Association’s annual fall conference in Greensboro, NC.  The title was “Character Education:  Multicultural Activities for Grades K-8”
