Kehayes establishes Wellness Infusion Initiative at Wilson Community College

As the Educational Support Counselor in Student Development at Wilson Community College (WCC), Kate Kehayes connects students with the resources to support their academic and personal goals. Kehayes began working at WCC as an intern while completing her Masters in Counselor Education at ECU.  During her internship, Kehayes helped develop the Early Alert Referral System (EARS), which allows instructors to identify underperforming students for additional outreach by counselors.  Working with at-risk students helped Kehayes identify common challenges faced by community college students such as: transportation, Continue reading →

ECU College of Education hosts AP Summer Institute for educators

Nearly 70 teachers from North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia attended the Advanced Placement (AP) Summer Institute hosted by The College Board Southern Regional Office and East Carolina University from June 25-28. Held at South Central High School, the summer institute offered intensive professional development for AP educators through the completion of 30 or more hours of content-rich training designed to strengthen how they teach AP courses. College of Education alums honored with teaching awards

Two East Carolina University College of Education alumni were recently honored with teaching awards in North Carolina. Julie Brickhouse, a special education teacher at Wahl Coates Elementary School of the Arts, was named the Pitt County Schools Teacher of the Year on Wednesday, March 14, at Rock Springs Center. C.M. Eppes Middle School science teacher recipient of inaugural John C. Park Scholarship

When the opportunity came to attend the annual National Science Teachers Association National Conference on Science Education, Allie Smith, an eighth-grade science teacher at C.M. Eppes Middle School in Greenville, jumped at the chance. The opportunity arose through a new annual award for science teachers in eastern North Carolina — the John C.
