James W. Batten Research Fellow Scholarship. Awarded to upper level undergraduate or graduate students enrolled full time in the College of Education. Must have a GPA of 2.5 or above with a demonstrated commitment to the study of and a career in education. Annual award of $1000 is subject to availability. Three $1,000 scholarships will be awarded for the 2009-2010 academic year.

Osmond Mitchell Endowment Fund. Awarded to undergraduate or graduate students from Craven County enrolled full time in a teacher education degree program. A minimum GPA of 3.0 for undergraduates and 3.5 for graduates required. Selection based on demonstrated commitment to the study of and a career in education. May be renewable once. Award amount is $6,000 and is ($3,000 for each of two semesters) subject to availability. Five $6,000 scholarships will be awarded for the 2009-2010 academic year.

James and Virginia Tucker Scholarship. Awarded to a deserving undergraduate student enrolled full time and majoring in education. Minimum GPA of 3.0 required. Selection based on demonstrated commitment to the study of and a career in education. Award amount is $1,000 ($500 for each of two semesters) and is subject to availability. One $1,000 scholarship will be awarded for the 2009-2010 academic year.

Dr. Betty M. Long Memorial Scholarship Fund. Awarded to junior, senior or graduate student enrolled full time in the College of Education. Academic standards of eligibility must be met. Award amount is $1,000 ($500 for each of two semesters) and is subject to availability. One $1,000 scholarship will be awarded for the 2009-20010 academic year.

Dr. Suzanne M. Wester, M.D. Scholarship. Awarded to a graduate student enrolled full time in the College of Education with a demonstrated commitment to the study of and a career in education. Annual award of $5,000 ($2,500 for each of two semesters) is subject to availability. One $5,000 scholarship will be awarded for the 2009-2010 academic year.

Carolyn C. Matthews Jones Scholarship. Awarded to a deserving undergraduate student enrolled full time and majoring in education. Minimum GPA of 3.0 required. Selection based on demonstrated commitment to the study of and a career in education. Award amount is $1,000 ($500 for each of two semesters) and is subject to availability. Three $1,000 scholarships will be awarded for the 2009-2010 academic year.

Dr. Charles R. Coble Scholarship. Awarded to a deserving undergraduate student enrolled full time and majoring in education. Minimum GPA of 3.0 required. Selection based on demonstrated commitment to the study of and a career in education. Award amount is 1,500 ($750 for each of two semesters) and is subject to availability. Two $1,500 scholarships will be awarded for the 2009-2010 academic year.

Sylvan Learning Center of Elizabeth City/Neal and Michelle Tynch Scholarship. Awarded to a full time undergraduate student admitted to Upper Division with at least a 3.0 GPA. The recipient must show a demonstrated commitment to the study of and a career in education and must be from one of the following counties: Gates, Perquimans, Pasquotank, Chowan, Camden, Currituck, Dare, Martin, Washington, Bertie, and Hertford. Award amount is $1,500 ($750 for each of two semesters) and is subject to availability. Two $1,500 scholarships will be awarded for the 2009-2010 academic year.

Educators Hall of Fame Centennial Scholarship. Awarded to a deserving student from eastern NC pursuing a degree in Education who wishes to pursue a career as an educator in NC. The following criteria must be met: Acceptance to ECU, enrolled full time, at least a 3.5 high school GPA (unweighted), demonstrated commitment to the study and career in education. Annual award of $2500 ($1250 each semester) is subject to availability. One $2500 scholarship will be awarded for the 2009-2010 academic year. The scholarship award shall be for four academic years (eight semesters). At the discretion of the College of Education Selection Committee, the scholarship may be renewed as long as the recipient continues to meet the eligibility requirements. Nannie B. Morton Scholarship. Awarded to incoming freshmen enrolled full time who intend to major in education. Recipients must be students who graduate from Richlands High School with a 3.0 high school GPA and a 2.5 university GPA at the end of the first semester. Annual award of $600 ($300 per semester) is subject to availability. One $600 scholarship will be awarded for the 2009-2010 academic year.

Helen Armfield Crowder Scholarship. Awarded to an upper level undergraduate student enrolled full time with a minimum of a 3.0 GPA. Annual award of $600 ($300 per semester) is subject to availability. One $600 scholarship will be awarded for the 2009-2010 academic year.

Dr. and Mrs. Vincent Colombo Scholarship. Awarded to children of public school teachers. Three $1000 awards available for 2009-2010 ($500 for each of two semesters).

Mona W. Jarvis Elementary Education Scholarship. Awarded to a rising junior or senior with a 3.0 GPA. First preference given to students from Beaufort County. One $1000 award available for 2009-2010 ($500 for each of two semesters).

Laughinghouse-Leary Scholarship. Awarded to to a deserving student from Pitt or Craven County who is majoring in Education, with a concentration in mathematics, science, vocation or elementary studies. One $500 award available for 2009-2010 ($250 for each of two semesters). Added on 1-6-09.

Scholarship Application
Scholarship Reference Form

This two-year scholarship will be awarded to legal residents of the United States who are enrolled full-time in teacher education and meet the following criteria:

Recipients must have a GPA of at least 2.5 and be:
- Rising juniors when accepted
- Admitted to Upper Division
- Successfully passed Praxis
First preference will be given to students majoring in the following high need areas:
- Special Education
- Middle Grades math and science
- High School math and science
Second preference will be given to students majoring in music education.
The scholarship will be available to traditional undergraduate students for their junior and senior years and who are not receiving other significant scholarship funds such as the North Carolina Teaching Fellows Scholarship.
Recipients will be expected to teach for at least two years in one of the 29 Latham Clinical Schools Network counties and school systems (Beaufort, Bertie, Carteret, Craven, Duplin, Edenton-Chowan, Edgecombe, Franklin, Gates, Greene, Halifax, Roanoke Rapids City, Weldon City, Hyde, Johnston, Jones, Lenoir, Martin, Nash/Rocky Mount, Northampton, Onslow, Pamlico, Pitt, Sampson, Clinton City, Tyrrell, Washington, Wayne or Wilson). For every year they don't teach towards the two-year commitment, they must pay back the amount of scholarship money they received from this Fund each year.

Award amount is $10,000 ($2,500 for each of four semesters) and is subject to availability. Two $5,000 scholarships will be awarded for the 2009-2010 academic year to two rising juniors meeting the above criteria.

So to Teach - So to Serve - So to Live. The Eta Chi Chapter for Kappa Delta Pi, International Honor Society in Education will offer one (1) scholarship for a graduate student in the 2009-2010 school year. Award amount is $500. Students enrolled in at least 6 semester hours in an advanced degree program in the College of Education are encouraged to apply. William Tasse Alexander Scholarship Fund.Awarded to a rising junior or senior majoring in education or taking courses leading to a career in teaching who is a legal resident of Mecklenburg County, North Carolina with a minimum GPA of 3.0. Applicants who are descendants of Susan Henry & Thomas J. Watkins and Margery Cochran & William T. Alexander must meet GPA requirement but not field of study or place of residence. Mary Morrow-Edna Richards Scholarship
Applicants must be North Carolina residents enrolled in a teacher education program. They must be in the JUNIOR YEAR OF COLLEGE and willing to teach in the public schools of North Carolina for at least two (2) years following graduation, and be encouraged to become members of the NCAE following graduation.

Kay Hall Chesson Scholarship Fund. Awarded to a student enrolled full time in the College of Education Department of Business and Information Technologies Education. Minimum GPA of 3.0 required. Award Amount is $1000 ($500 for each of two semesters) and is subject to availability. One $1000 scholarships will be awarded for the 2009-2010 academic year.

H. Frances Daniels Scholarship. Awarded to a rising junior or senior student enrolled full time in the College of Education Department of Business and Information Technologies Education. Minimum GPA of 3.0 required. Award amount is $500 ($250 for each of two semesters) and is subject to availability. One $500 scholarship will be awarded for the 2009-2010 academic year.

James White Scholarship. Awarded to a student enrolled full time in the Department of Business and Information Technologies Education and majoring in either information Processing or Administrative Services. Award amount is $600 and is subject to availability. One $600 scholarship will be awarded for the 2009-2010 academic year.

Frank G. Fuller Fellowship. Available to a full time graduate student majoring in counselor education. Selection is based on scholarship with a minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.0 and graduate average of 3.5. Award amount is $500 ($250 for each of two semesters) and is subject to availability. One $500 scholarship will be awarded for the 2009-2010 academic year.

Counselor Education Fellowship. Available to a part-time graduate student majoring in school counseling; applicant must have completed 12 semester hours in COAD and currently work as an elementary, middle, high school, or special education teacher. Selection is based on scholarship with a minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.0 and graduate average of 3.5. Award amount is $1000 ($500 for each of two semesters) and is subject to availability. Two $1000 scholarships will be awarded for the 2009-2010 academic year.

Elementary Education

Andy Roos Memorial Scholarship. Available to assist deserving students enrolled full time and majoring in elementary education. Selection based on scholarship with minimum GPA of 3.3 to qualify. Award amount is $1000 ($500 for each of two semesters) and is subject to availability. One $1000 scholarship will be awarded for the 2009-2010 academic year.

Doris N. Burnette Scholarship. Awarded to students accepted for admission or currently enrolled full time in elementary education. Selection based on scholarship and citizenship. Award amount is $3000 ($1500 for each of two semesters) and is subject to availability. Two $3,000 scholarships will be awarded for the 2009-2010 academic year.

Mary Lois Staton Scholarship. Awarded to upper-level undergraduate students enrolled full time and majoring in elementary education. Eligible recipients selected based upon merit, although need may be a secondary consideration. Award amount is $2,000 ($1000 for each of two semesters) and is subject to availability. Two $2,000 scholarships will be awarded for the 2009-2010 academic year.

Clyda Batton Memorial Scholarship. First preference is given to an outstanding graduate of Smithfield-Selma High School enrolled full time in the College of Education and majoring in elementary education. Award amount is $1,000 ($500 for each of two semesters) and is subject to availability. One $1,000 scholarship will be awarded for the 2009-2010 academic year.

J. Worth Carter Scholarship. Awarded to a rising junior or senior undergraduate student from eastern North Carolina enrolled full time in either elementary education or middle grades education. First preference is to students from Cumberland County. Selection based on scholarship, need, and citizenship. Award amount is $600 ($300 for each two semesters) and is subject to availability. One $600 scholarship will be awarded for the 2009-2010 academic year.

Kara Lynn Corey Fennell Scholarship. Awarded to a rising junior or senior undergraduate student enrolled full time in elementary education, Award amount is $600 ($300 for each of two semesters) and is subject to availability. One $600 scholarship will be awarded for the 2009-2010 academic year.

Gravely Foundation Scholarships in Elementary Education and Special Education. Awarded to rising junior or senior undergraduate students or graduate students enrolled full time and majoring in elementary education or special education. Selection based on academic excellence, financial need, citizenship, and dedication to the teaching profession. Award amount is $1000 ($500 for each of two semesters) for each of two scholarships per year and is subject to availability. One $1000 scholarship will be awarded to a student majoring in Elementary Education and one $1000 scholarship will be awarded to a student majoring in Special Education.

Jean Garris Scholarships in Elementary and Special Education. Awarded to junior or senior undergraduate students enrolled full time and majoring in either elementary education or special education. Award amount is $600 ($300 for each of two semesters) and subject to availability. One $600 scholarship will be awarded to a student majoring in Elementary Education and one $600 scholarship will be awarded to a student majoring in Special Education for the 2009-2010 academic year.

Helen Massey Harrell Memorial Scholarship. Awarded to an undergraduate student enrolled full time and pursuing a degree in either elementary or middle grades education. Selection based on academic excellence, citizenship, and dedication to the teaching profession. Award amount is $1000 ($500 for each of two semesters) and is subject to availability. One $1000 scholarship will be awarded for the 2009-2010 academic year.

Ellen Boone Staton Memorial Scholarship. Awarded to a rising junior or senior full-time student in the College of Education elementary education program. Selection is based on academic ability (minimum 3.0 GPA), academic major, and financial need. Award amount is $1000 ($500 for each of two semesters) and subject to availability.

Charles and Beth Ward Scholarship in Elementary Education. Awarded to an undergraduate student enrolled full time and majoring in elementary education. Academic standards of eligibility must be met. One $500 award available for 2009-2010 ($250 for each of two semesters).

Middle Grades Education

Faye Marie Creegan Scholarship. Awarded to rising seniors enrolled full time in the College of Education and preparing for certification in the teaching of social studies in the middle or secondary grades. Minimum 3.0 GPA. Award amount is $2,000 ($1,000 for each of two semesters) and is subject to availability. One $2,000 scholarship will be awarded to a student majoring in Middle Grades Education with a concentration in social studies for the 2009-2010 academic year.

Reading Education

Becky Keith Ledford Memorial Scholarship. Available to a graduate student enrolled full time or part time and majoring in reading education who is qualified to hold a teaching license in reading or equivalent. Selection based on demonstrated ability to teach through teaching or clinical internship experience. Award amount is $1,000 ($500 for each of two semesters) and is subject to availability. One $1,000 scholarship will be awarded for the 2009-2010 academic year.

Special Education

Sandra Hopfengardner Warren Scholarship. Awarded to an undergraduate student from Greene County, NC pursuing a degree in special education (who has met testing requirements for Upper Division). Award based on academic ability, academic major and other criteria as determined by the selection committee. Award amount is $1,000 ($500 for each of two semesters) and is subject to availability. One $1,000 scholarship will be awarded for the 2009-2010 academic year.

Burney and Judy Warren Scholarship. Awarded to a rising senior undergraduate or graduate student enrolled full time and majoring in special education. Minimum GPA of 3.5 required. Selection based on demonstrated commitment to study of special education and interest in working with learning disabled children. Award is $1,000 ($500 for each of two semesters) and is subject to availability. Three $1,000 scholarships will be awarded for the 2009-2010 academic year.

Benjamin Scott Denton Graduate Fellowship. Awarded to a graduate student accepted for admission and enrolled full time in special education. Minimum GPA of 3.5 required. Selection based on scholarship and commitment to the study of special education. Award amount is $2,000 ($1,000 for each of two semesters) and is subject to availability. Award amount is $1000 ($500 for each of two semesters) and is subject to availability. One $1,000 scholarship will be awarded for the 2009-2010 academic year.

Angel Boberg-Webb Scholarship. Awarded to a masters level student with a 2.5 GPA each semester who is a resident of North Carolina and teaching in a North Carolina public school. One $1000 award available for 2009-2010 ($500 for each of two semesters).

ECU Highly Qualified Special Educators (ECU HQ-SPED). Tuition awarded to undergraduates in upper division pursuing a bachelors degree in special education general curriculum, and to alternative licensure students pursuing special education general curriculum initial or add-on licensure. Scholars fulfill a service obligation upon completing coursework, teaching students with documented disabilities for two years for every academic year tuition support is received. Application

ECU Transition to Teaching. The ECU ECU SPED T2T scholarship prepares highly qualified K-12 special educators in adapted or general curriculum who will also be licensed in elementary and reading. Students supported through ECU SPED may receive up to a $5,000 tuition stipend, a personal laptop and webcam for use throughout their program. Scholars fulfill a service obligation whereby they work with students with disabilities for three years in qualified high-need NC schools upon completing licensure requirements. Application

ECU Pathways. Tuition awarded to undergraduates in upper division pursuing a bachelors in special education adapted curriculum, and to alternative licensure students pursuing special education adapted curriculum initial or add-on licensure, and to students pursuing a master's degree in special education, low-incidence disabilities. Ralph Brimley Enrichment Fund. Available to deserving graduate students enrolled in a program in the Department of Educational Leadership. Selection based on potential for providing distinctive service in the elementary and/or secondary schools of North Carolina. Award amount is $2000 ($1000 for each of two semesters) and is subject to availability. Two $2,000 scholarships will be awarded for the 2009-2010.

Mack and Margaret Coble Doctoral Fellowship.Awarded to a qualified candidate enrolled full time in the EdD program in Educational Leadership. Award amount is $2,000 ($1000 for each of two semesters) and is subject to availability. One $2,000 scholarship will be awarded for the 2009-2010 academic year.

Smith Gardner Educational Leadership Fellowship. Awarded to a masters level student enrolled in the Department of Educational Leadership in the College of Education with a 3.0 GPA who is pursuing a career in educational administration. First preference given to students from Chowan County and then the following: Currituck, Dare, Camden, Pasquotank, Perquimans, Washington, Tyrell, Bertie and Pitt. One $500 scholarship available for 2009-2010 ($250 for each of two semesters).

Diane and Chip Linville Scholarship. Awarded to a graduate student enrolled full time in the Department of Educational Leadership. Minimum 3.0 GPA required. Award amount is $600 ($300 for each of two semesters) and is subject to availability.One $600 scholarship will be awarded for the 2009-2010 academic year.

Glatthorn Dissertation Award. Awarded to a graduate student who is selected as having the most outstanding dissertation in the Dept. of Educational Leadership. Annual award of $1000 ($500 each semester) is subject to availability. One $1000 award will be awarded for the 2009-2010 academic year.

Mildred Daniels Southwick Award. Awarded to a library science major enrolled full time who demonstrates a commitment to a career in reference librarianship. Recipient and award amount determined by the department and is subject to availability. One $600 scholarship will be awarded for the 2009-2010 academic year.

Emily Boyce Fellowship Award. Awarded to a graduate student enrolled full time in the master of library science degree program. To be eligible, a student must have completed at least 18 semester hours of graduate study in the MLS program with a GPA of 3.5 or higher on all graduate work, including minimum of B grades in all MLS coursework. Selection based on demonstrated potential for community leadership and evidence of commitment to career in library administration/management. Award amount is $1,000 ($500 for each of two semesters) and is subject to availability. Two $1,000 scholarships will be awarded for the 2009-2010 academic year.

Linda Haddock McRae Memorial Scholarship. Awarded to a deserving graduate students pursuing a Master of Library Science degree. First preference will be given to students from either Cumberland or Greene County. Award amount is $2,000 ($1000 for each of two semesters) and is subject to availability. Two $2,000 scholarships will be awarded for the 2009-2010 academic year.

Betty Abernathy Scholarship. The $2,500 ($1,250 for each of two semesters) scholarship will be awarded to deserving students who meet the following criteria:

Incoming Freshman student accepted to attend East Carolina University
Academic merit - at least a 3.0 high school GPA
Demonstrated commitment to the study of and a career in science education

The scholarship award shall be for one academic year (two semesters). At the discretion of the Abernathy Scholars Selection Committee, the scholarship may be renewed as long as the recipient continues to meet the eligibility requirements.

Dr. Moses M. Sheppard Scholarship. Awarded to a qualified student enrolled full time and majoring in either math or science education. Award amount is $1,000 ($500 for each of two semesters) and is subject to availability. One $1,000 scholarship will be awarded for the 2009-2010 academic year.
