The College of Education Graduate Recognition Ceremony is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 9, 2015 in Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum. The ceremony will feature individual recognition of College of Education students receiving degrees. Friends and families of the graduates are cordially invited to attend.
The College of Education is pleased to announce that the American Library Association has awarded accreditation to the Master of Library Science degree program. This accreditation action is in effect immediately, and is retroactive for two years. This means 2013 and 2014 graduates now have an ALA accredited degree. Current students will also, of course, graduate with an ALA accredited degree.
ECU is one of only nine institutions across the country and the first in North Carolina to complete reaccreditation through the Transformation Initiative pathway by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation. “I would say it’s an important designation for ECU and the UNC system,” said Alisa Chapman, vice president for academic and university programs in the UNC system. “ECU is an exemplar for teacher education, using data and research and innovation to improve their practice.”
This Pirate loves helping children in need. “Teaching is something I’ve always wanted to do,” said Smith, whose grandmother predicted her future career path. “I love kids. If there’s a child in need, I am there to the rescue.”
This Pirate finds fulfillment serving others through math, music and ministry. As a senior, Stepney is an ECU Teaching Fellow, serves on the College of Education Junior Advisory Board, a member of the ECU Gamma Chapter of Mathematics, and leads worship for Collide Campus Ministries. His goal is to teach High School Mathematics upon graduation in May.
