Welcome to the home of the ECU NC Teaching Fellows and Maynard Scholars

Being a Teaching Fellow at East Carolina University offers the best of two worlds. You will study on a major university campus of over 23,000 students with football Saturdays, major concerts, art exhibits, theater, and fascinating research, and you will have the advantage of a small college in that your special niche as a Teaching Fellow supports you individually from those critical first days through graduation. The College of Education, one of the oldest and largest in this state, offers certifications in most major fields as well as in Music Education, Dance Education, Theatre Education, Art Education, Special Education, and Business and Marketing. Teaching Fellows at ECU enjoy living together in Umstead Residence Hall, mingling in professional seminars, committee meetings, and social events, and having the support of a full time office staff.

The program emphasizes the preparation of teachers as Professionals by association with outstanding practicing teachers and with work in local schools with at-risk students. The service element of teaching is emphasized through volunteer work with the Ronald McDonald House, Toys for Tots, and Greenville civic and professional clubs. East Carolina University is a special place—a special place for studying with outstanding professors, associating with friendly colleagues on a major college campus, and benefiting from the support of 180 other East Carolina Teaching Fellows.

The bottom line is this: One day you’ll find yourself looking at a class full of kids who are all looking back at you, and you’ll be wishing you had the strongest teacher preparation and the best education available. If you were a Teaching Fellow at East Carolina, you did.
