TRAVEL

East Carolina University Teaching Fellows and Maynard Scholars have many opportunities to travel both with the state program (TF) and the campus program. As a NC Teaching Fellow, you will embark on DISCOVERY after your freshman year. This weeklong bus adventure takes Fellows from all fourteen campuses across the state visiting educational systems, industries, and cultural sites.

During the sophomore year, ECU Teaching Fellows and Maynard Scholars take a one-day trip to a selected historical location in North Carolina. Juniors experience a three to four day trip during the spring semester. The emphasis of this trip is multiculturalism and education.

Finally, the ECU TF/MS use funds raised from working concessions at home football games to travel on an overnight trip in April.  Past trips include: Washington D.C., Charleston, S.C., Atlanta, G.A., and Williamsburg, V.A.

The summer between the sophomore and junior year,  Teaching Fellows participate in the Junior Enrichment of their choosing. Available activities range from Turtle Island Preserve, which lasts a week and costs Fellows nothing, to Cambridge, England, which last three weeks at greater expense to the Fellow. Applications are listed on the Internet sometime in November for Fellows to review and to make their choice.
