What is Tele-Education?
  • Conducting a conference between two or more participants at different sites by using computer networks to transmit audio and video data *
  • A way to connect individuals at remote sites in real time.

  • A way to observe lessons/teachers.

What is involved for the K-12 schools?
  • 1 "live" network connection
  • 1 Polycom or Tanberg videoconferencing camera
  • 1 small TV
  • 1 cart

*ECU works with the partnering school district to provide equipment and technical support. The classroom teacher is not responsible for providing equipment or set up.

How does Tele-Education benefit the K-12 Schools?
  • Opportunities for current teachers to share ideas and impact future teachers:
  • Enhanced teacher preparation
  • Demand for off-campus programs
  • Professional Development Opportunities
  • Linking K-12 & Higher Education
  • Supervision of Interns/Student Teachers
  • Research
  • Team Teaching and Collaborations
  • Partnerships with Business and Industry
  • Guest Speakers
  • Internships/Fieldwork that can be viewed
  • Partnerships with Higher Education Institutions
  • Potential for less intrusive observations:  A class of ECU students can all observe the same teacher (and lesson) without all piling in to the back of the classroom, or trickling in over several days – arrange times/days only with instructor.

  • Any K-12 school in the Latham Clinical Schools Network-
Schools and/or School Districts must have signed a tele-education agreement form and have parental permission for all students.
  • Universities
  • Business and Professional Speakers
Equipment Used for Video Conferencing:
