Welcome to the Department of Literacy Studies, English Education and History Education! Our department offers undergraduate and graduate degrees along with coursework leading to eligibility for North Carolina licensure.

The Literacy Studies area of our department offers courses and opportunities for professional development in all areas of literacy and literacy instruction. Reading courses are included within many programs and can lead to completion of a Reading Concentration, eligibility for the North Carolina A-Level Reading License and the M-Level Reading License, as well as the M.A.Ed. in Reading Education degree, which is online.
The English Education area provides significant opportunities to acquire knowledge and experience with secondary English education programs in schools. Students may pursue a B.S. in English, Secondary Education degree, and at the graduate level, the M.A.Ed. in English Education and the M.A.T. in English Education degrees.
The History Education area provides substantive social studies experiences in instructional settings. Students may pursue a B.S. in History, Secondary Education, and at the graduate level, the M.A.Ed. in History Education and the M.A.T. in History Education.
