Alcohol Use Education and Prevention

ECU has several programs set up to tackle the issue of alcohol use among college students. Below are some examples of the actions that are being taken to keep the campus community safe and educated regarding alcohol use.

  • College Alc- This evidence-based program was designed to reduce college student drinking and prevent consequences and aims at preventing alcohol-related harm among college students. All first-year students are required to complete this program by the middle of their first semester on campus.

  • HLTH 1000 – Students are required to take this 2 credit hour class covering several personal health issues, including alcohol. The course was reorganized to place the alcohol lesson at the beginning of the semester. This allows for maximum impact since the first few weeks of the semester are the considered the highest risk for excessive alcohol consumption.

  •  Campus Presentations – Counselors go into various classrooms and discuss health issues relevant to college students. Students are allowed to ask questions and have these questions answered by individuals who are knowledgeable in the area of college student health.
