This semester I was given the opportunity to work with the volunteers at PiCASO. PiCASO stands for (Pitt County AIDS Service Organization). In my Health 1050 class we had to makeup an activity to help out in the community. With the help of some students in the health 1000 class we were able to raise 462 cans for the PiCASO food pantry. I am glad that I was given a chance to help out the community by getting students to donate cans to PiCASO.
PiCASO is a non-profit organization that serves people with HIV/AIDS. PiCASO helps people with HIV/AIDS by providing them with housing, a specialized food pantry, emergency financial assistance and most of all support.
The mission of the Pitt County AIDS Service Organization is to prevent the transmission of HIV through educational outreach to Pitt County and the surrounding counties of Eastern North Carolina and to provide culturally sensitive, individually focused, physical, social, emotional, and financial assistance to those living with, and affected by HIV/AIDS in our community. In providing these services, we strive to treat all people with dignity, respect, and compassion.
