12/08/06 Pittsylvania County, NC: Environmental Health Manager

The Pittsylvania-Danville Health District (Position is located in Pittsylvania County Health Department) is recruiting an Environmental Health Manager to oversee the district environmental health programs focusing on immediate administrative and operational issues, policy administration & quality assurance along with daily supervision of staff.  Knowledge of and experience with environmental & public health issues, principles & methods and supervisory & management principles.  Skill in the use of computers & software and the use of typical EH tools & instruments.  High level of interpersonal skills & oral/written communication skills.  Ability to train and supervise others, to work independently.  Ability to negotiate solutions & resolve conflicts and to interpret complex environmental health laws, regulations, policy and apply to specific situations.  Ability to promote and develop appropriate policy and quality assurance. 

 

BS/BA degree in Environmental Health, natural science or related field and/or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.  Prior supervisory experience preferred. 

 

Must provide own transportation. Statement of Economic Interests required.  A criminal background investigation is required.

Salary Grade: 68
Salary Range: $32,92 - $52,713

Minimum Requirements: Graduation from a four year college or university with a major in Technology/Safety, or Occupational Safety and Health; or Environmental Safety/Health; or Industrial Hygiene; or one of the physical sciences and minimum of (1) year progressive occupational safety and health or industrial hygiene experience; or an equivalent combination of education directly related experience.

Description of Work: Administrative and technical position designed to provide technical support and program management for the Safety Director and University Industrial Hygienist. Major responsibilities include develop and conduct a comprehensive needs assessment for safety and health training for campus departments; develop, document, an deliver safety and health training programs; develop, maintain, an audit university safety and health computerized training records and database, including re-training and tracking employee training records; coordinate with regulatory agencies to insure training programs meet state, federal, and local regulatory requirements; coordinate, purchase, and develop training materials, maintain and expand departmental website; serve as liaison with University Safety and Health Committee to inform them of training programs and deficiencies; assist other departmental staff to perform additional safety and health tasks as directed.
