 Elizabeth Doster
Hello! My name is Elizabeth Doster and I recently performed a service learning project at REAP. REAP is a developmental daycare located on the campus of East Carolina University in Greenville, NC. The daycare provides services to special needs children along with those that are normal in their functioning. For my project, I taught a dance and gymnastics class and I had a blast doing it.
Throughout the course of my project, I learned many things about myself. For one, I learned patience. Little children can get out of hand and not listen to you; therefore, I learned how to stay clam and be understanding of their age. Also, I improved my time management skills. I learned that I had to balance my time in order to get everything accomplished that I needed to.
If every student in college had the opportunity to perform a service learning project, I believe the world would change. Now that mine is complete, I would not trade my experience for anything. It was one of the most worth while experiences of my life. REAP is a wonderful agency and it is great to know that there are such wonderful people out there who care for the specially challenged.
