Kella TysonKella Tyson
Hey! My name is Kella Tyson and for my service learning project I volunteered for PiCASO, Pitt County Aids Service Organization. PiCASO is a non-profit organization, funded by grants and private donations, dedicated to supporting people living with HIV/AIDS and to slowing the spread of HIV. The mission of the Pitt County AIDS Service Organization is to prevent the transmission of HIV through educational outreach to Pitt County and the surrounding counties of Eastern North Carolina and to provide culturally sensitive, individually focused, physical, social, emotional, and financial assistance to those living with, and affected by HIV/AIDS in our community. PiCASO provides services to those living in Pitt County with HIV. The services that PiCASO provides include: educational services, case management, emergency financial assistance, specialized food pantry, housing assistance, transportation assistance, and support.

What I did for the Pitt County AIDS Service Organization was to collect food by hosting food drives here on campus and also spreading the awareness around campus of HIV/AIDS. The food drives were very successful and provided a lot of help for PiCASO. Many of the health classes helped by donating canned foods. We also handed out flyers providing information about HIV/AIDS. Overall our service learning project was very successful.
