Marina BonnerMarina Bonner
My name is Marina Bonner and I had the great honor of working at REAP for my service learning project.  REAP is a school in the Irons Building of the Allied Health area that serves children ranging from ages three to five.  There were twelve kids in the class of whom about six had some type of physical, mental or emotional disorder.  Some handicaps were obvious and some were harder to see.

I worked there approximately four hours a week teaching the kids sign language.  I worked with them about two at a time for about ten minutes per group.  This activity helped there motor skills, increased their knowledge and let them have a fun new way to communicate with their friends, both within the classroom and outside on the playground.

I’m really disappointed that I won’t be able to work with them next semester due to conflicts in my schedule.  I will be doing Growing Up Fit as a different assignment though, so we will see how things go.  I definitely plan to go back and visit though and maybe next fall I can go volunteer there again.  I thank God for such a wonderful opportunity to work with such blessings.
