The East Carolina Injury Prevention Program is a division of the Pitt County Memorial Hospital and University Health Systems.  They contain many programs to help citizens of the community safely interact with one another.  One of the programs is the Safe Kids Buckle Up Program.  This program is designed to help parents safely transport their children.  The Safe Kids Coalition is set up every Friday at the Greenville Fire and Rescue Station on 5th Street in Greenville, NC.  Typically there are two technicians and a hospital associate there to inspect the car seats.  Most of the firemen at the station are also certified to properly install car seats.

On any given Friday, someone transporting a child that is still using a car seat or booster seat is invited to pull into the station.  A certified technician will thoroughly check the child safety seat to insure that it is appropriate for the child’s age and weight.  The technician will also make any corrections needed for the seat and give the driver of the vehicle information on safely transporting children.

Every other Friday, the Safe Kids Coalition takes appointments from the local Department of Social Services.  Clients requiring public assistance are given car seats at no cost.  These clients must have appointments to prove they are on public assistance. Overall, the Safe Kids Buckle Up program, as a division of East Carolina injury Prevention is available to help anyone wanting to keep their children safe during travel and  they are extremely helpful.
