Jessica Barber Hi! My name is Jessica Barber and I am a volunteer at Pitt County Memorial Hospital. I love volunteering because you get to meet new people, you learn a lot about the hospital and what goes on there, and you also get some great benefits. Volunteers get free parking passes, meal tickets, and you can even earn annual awards according to how many hours you work.
One of the great things about working at Pitt Memorial is that you are cross-trained in several different areas of the hospital, which not only allows you to learn about all of the services they offer there but it also helps you find out what you are interested in. Right now I work in the ECU Brody School of Medicine in Brody Outpatient getting people registered when they come in for their appointments. Another area I have worked in is patient transport and escort. Transport is taking patients to various locations in the hospital, for example taking them to get X-Rays, and escort is taking them to their car when they are discharged from the hospital. I have only been there a short while and I have already learned so much. Pitt Memorial Hospital is a great place to volunteer if you are interested in a health care career and even if you aren’t and you are just looking for somewhere to give of your time and talent because the hospital is always in need of people to help. If you are interested in volunteering at the hospital you can contact the Volunteer Services Department at (252) 847-4491. |
