Scholarships

The following scholarships are awarded to students admitted to the Department of Health Education and Promotion:

Health Education Faculty/Alumni Scholarship

HHP/Sports Medicine Alumni ScholarshipSports Medicine logo
The HHP/Sports Medicine Alumni Scholarship is awarded to an undergraduate student (junior or senior) enrolled full time in the Sports Medicine Program. The student must meet the following criteria: 1. have a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA, 2. have a 3.0 GPA in athletic training courses, 3. demonstrated commitment to the study of and a career in athletic training, 4. adherence to the ECU Sports Medicine Code of Ethics, and 5. demonstrated leadership potential. NCSOPHE Scholarship Award
The NCSOPHE (North Carolina Society of Public Health Education) Scholarship Award is awarded to an undergraduate or graduate student in the Department of Health Education and Promotion. The recipient is awarded $500 per year. The student must meet the following criteria: 1. dues paying member, 2. pursuing academic degree in Health Education or related field, 3. letter from Department Chair, 4. three letters of reference, and 5. application filed by July 14th. Robert F. Allen Scholarship
The Robert F. Allen Scholarship is awarded to one graduate and one undergraduate student. The recipient of this scholarship is awarded: $500 per year, Complimentary pass to two annual conferences, Complimentary subscription to American Journal of Health Promotion, Copy of Mr. Allen's book, Collection of Health books from Addison Wesley, and Plaque The student must meet the following criteria: 1. documentation of contribution to the field, 2. full-time student with faculty sponsor, 3. paper on health promotion related topic, and 4. application filed by January 10th. Ronnie P. Barnes Scholarship
The Ronnie P. Barnes Scholarship is awarded to an undergraduate student (junior or senior) enrolled full time in the Sports Medicine Program. The student must meet the following criteria: 1. have a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA, 2. have a 3.0 GPA in athletic training courses, 3. demonstrated commitment to the study of and career in athletic training, 4. adhere to the ECU Sports Medicine Code of Ethics, and 5. demonstrated leadership potential. Other Scholarship Information
There are several scholarships being offered by AAHE (American Association for Health Education).  The scholarships are listed below along with information concerning applications. 
1. AAHE Scholarship - Undergraduate - the AAHE annually awards a scholarship of $1, 000.  The award goes to an undergraduate level student in Health Education.

2. Barbara A. Cooley Scholarship - Masters - annually awards a scholarship of $1,000.  The award goes to a Master's level candidate in Health Education.

3. The Delbert Oberteuffer Scholarship - Doctoral - this award is $1,500.  It will include a $1, 000 scholarship  which may be used at the discretion of the recipient. The second component of the award is a $500 professional development stipend awarded at an  annual meeting of AAHE and to be applied to the cost attending the annual convention.

4. Marion B. Pollock Fellowship - Masters - this award is a $5,000 fellowship for a student enrolled in a masters degree program in health education.  The award will include $500 for professional development to be awarded at an annual meeting of AAHE and to be applied to the cost of attending the annual convention.  The recipient may spend the remaining $4,500 of the  award in any manner they desire. The fellowship recipient will be recognized at the annual Awards Luncheon at the AAHE / AAHPERD convention.  Recipients will also receive a one-year complimentary student membership in AAHE.

Applications - Application materials must be postmarked by December 1.  For a copy of any of the applications, contact: AAHE, 1900 Association Drive, Reston, VA 20191-1599.  Be sure to specify for which scholarship you wish an application.  The guidelines may also be obtained on the AAHE website.

Health and Human Performance Scholarships

The following scholarships are awarded to students admitted to the College of Health and Human Performance:

William E. Cain Scholarship

Gravely Foundation Scholarship
The Gravely Foundation Scholarship is awarded to a full time undergraduate (junior or senior) or graduate student. Students must meet the following criteria: 1. a minimum 3.0 GPA, 2. demonstrated financial need, 3. good citizenship, and 4. dedication to the field. Applications must be received by September 30. A current university transcript is also required. The value of the Gravely Foundation Scholarship is $250 per semester. John P. and Harriett I. Hudson Scholarship
Mr. and Mrs. John Hudson have established an endowed scholarship within the School of Health & Human Performance. With their generous donation of $100,000, the Hudson's are allowing financial assistance for junior and senior undergraduate majors. This gift will enable the School of Health & Human Performance to provide at least $1,000 annually to an HHP student.

UBE Scholarship
The UBE (University Book Exchange) Scholarship is awarded to a full time undergraduate students. The student must meet the following criteria: 1. a minimum 3.0 GPA, 2. demonstrated financial need, 3. demonstrated citizenship, and 4. dedication to the field. Applications must be received by September 30. The UBE Scholarship is valued at $250 per semester.
