Admission Requirements

A. National Teacher Exam Requirements: for minimum scores see most recent edition of "Welcome to Teacher Education" booklet.

a. PRAXIS I: Pre-Professional Skills Test (PPST) or Computer Based Testing (CBT)

1. Reading
2. Writing
3. Math

b. PRAXIS II: (take during Internship Semester)

1. Principles of Learning and Teaching (PLT)
2. Specialty Area Test in Health Education

B. Requirements for Admission into Upper Division of Teacher Education

a. Earn a minimum of 60 s.h. of which 20 s.h. must be in general education.
b. Complete HLTH 2123 with a grade of C or better.
c. Maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA on all work attempted at East Carolina University.
d. Satisfactory completion of a Speech and Hearing Screening.
e. Apply for admission and undergo a departmental interview scheduled through the
HLTH 2123 instructor.
f. Achieve acceptable scores on the PPST or CBT of the PRAXIS I ( See A.a. above).
g. Computer competence on the competency exam or pass ASIP 2000 or equivalent.

C. Continuation of study in the upper division.

a. Take remaining professional education, health education, and general education course.
b. Maintain a 2.5 GPA on all college work attempted and in your health course.

D. Apply for Graduation in the Registrar's Office (pay fee) in your 2nd semester junior year. This will initiate the Senior Summary and allow one semester buffer before your internship semester to pick up any deficiencies.

E. Watch for Health Internship meeting announcements.
You must have a 2.5 GPA overall in your major to do the internship. All appropriate forms will be filled out at that time for certification recommendation and internship application. Senior I occurs during the first semester of the senior year. Senior II occurs during the last semester of the senior year. F. Apply for internship during the 2nd semester of junior year by making an appointment with Dr. Barnes
