Welcome to the Department of Health Education and Promotion!
The strong academic programs offered by the Department of Health Education and Promotion at East Carolina University are founded on a rich tradition of teaching by 35 outstanding faculty. We offer undergraduate degree programs in Athletic Training, Environmental Health, Community Health, School Health, Worksite Health Promotion, and Prehealth Professions and a licensure program in Driver Education. We offer graduate degrees in Athletic Training, Environmental Health, Health Education and Promotion, and School Health. The MA in Health Education and Promotion and the MAEd in School Health Education are available entirely online via distance education, as is the licensure program in Driver Education. We strive to maintain a low student to teacher ration in upper division courses, which provides the opportunity for stimulating and meaningful student-faculty interaction as well as success in achieving educational goals. The Department of Health Education and Promotion is known for its outstanding advisors who really care about their advisees. There are many exciting job opportunities in Health Education and Promotion. Virtually 100% of our graduates find meaningful employment in the field. Our faculty conduct research in a variety of areas, including child and maternal health, worksite health promotion, sexuality education, adolescent health, HIV/AIDS, women's health, traffic safety, substance abuse prevention, athletic training, community coalition building, service learning, chronic disease management, vector-borne disease prevention, and water quality and safety. Our introductory personal health course, HLTH 1000, is a general education requirement. Please take some time to look over the information on this site about our programs and faculty. Contact our program directors or the Department Office if you want more information or have questions.
