Dean Gilbert Welcomes New ROTC Commanders
LTC Serena A. Armstrong is Commander, ECU Air Force ROTC. She earned her commission through the Reserve Officer Training Corps at the University of Florida. She entered the Air Force as a Services officer and has served in a variety of Services positions throughout her career to include a command tour at RAF Lakenheath. She served most recently as the Deputy Commander, 4th Mission Support Group which is responsible for providing civil engineering, communications-computer systems support, security and law enforcement, personnel, education, food services, fitness, procurement, logistics readiness and housing for a community of more than 13,000 people. LTC Armstrong has deployed to Italy, Croatia, Qatar, and most recently to Afghanistan.
LTC Dan Heape is Commander of the ECU Army ROTC. He was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Field Artillery in June 1995 and branched transferred to Ordnance Corps in 1997. Previously, he was the Deputy G4 for the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) at Fort Campbell, KY and the Deputy J4 for the 101st Airborne Division (Forward) in support of Operation Enduring Freedom 10-11, Afghanistan. Heape graduated from California State University Sacramento with a Bachelor's in Criminology and earned a Masters in Military Studies from the Marine Corps Command and General Staff College at Quantico, VA.
