Walker Center Adapted Sports Program

The East Carolina University’s L.T. Walker Center Adapted Sports Program (WCASP) is a community-based organization, led by Dr. David Loy-an assistant professor of recreational therapy in the College of Health and Human Performance, designed to provide active living opportunities for individuals with disabilities. WCASP has been funded in the past by a grant from Pitt Memorial Hospital Foundation and works in collaboration with ECU’s Department of Recreational Services and Support Team for Active Recreation (STAR) to put on local events throughout the entire year. The WCASP has a high impact on the quality of life of people with disabilities in the communities and it will provide them with a vehicle to increased community integration, mobility, socialization, and independence. WCASP first asks, “Are you Living the Active Life?” Then, the WCASP tries to provide chances that lead to answering yes to that question. Finally, if you are having difficulty finding transportation or paying for recreation, sport, or exercise activities in the Greenville/Pitt County the WCASP has funding available to assist. Please contact Heather Bright at (252) 737-1497 or wcasp@ecu.edu if the WCASP can help YOU get active in sports, exercise, and recreation.
